MEQUON, Wis. (Apr. 11, 2013) - A 6-0 second-half run negated a slim deficit and secured victory for the North Central College women's lacrosse team on Thursday, as the Cardinals improved to 5-0 in Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) play with an 11-9 victory at Concordia University Wisconsin.
North Central (7-3) tied its single-season school record for wins and defeated the Falcons for the third consecutive year.
After allowing the game's first goal, the Cardinals pulled in front with goals from Adelaide Dieckmeyer and
Claire Norfleet within a 51-second span. Concordia (4-4, 1-3) countered with two more scores of their own, taking a 3-2 lead on a free-position shot by Aly Pinkos with 23:51 on the first-half clock.
Trailing, 5-4, near the end of the first period, the Cardinals were able to knot the score as
Kailey Robbins forced a turnover with under a minute to go and
Rachael Houp scored with 27 seconds remaining to send the game into halftime tied, 5-5.
Concordia's Hayley Peppers scored just 46 seconds into the second half to put the hosts up once again, but
Gina Fisher responded with a free-position goal before
Jacqui Morgan assisted
Danielle Fiala on the go-ahead goal with 27:22 to play. North Central got two goals from
Leea LoPresti in the next four minutes, followed by goals from Fisher and Fiala, to take an 11-6 lead with 19:54 to go.
The Falcons were able to cut into the lead with three goals in 12 minutes, but were unable to get a shot off in the final 7:47 as North Central closed out the win.
Fiala finished with three goals and seven ground balls, while Norfleet totaled four draw controls. Emily Heckendorf scored three goals for Concordia.
