Box Score

Apr. 14, 2013 - Emerging with a strong second half for the second straight game, the North Central College women's lacrosse team established another benchmark for the young program on Sunday, as the Cardinals claimed a 17-13 non-conference victory over DePauw University at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

With the win, the Cardinals (8-3) establish a new single-season record for victories with five regular-season contests still left to play. North Central improved to 4-0 in home games in 2013.

The Cardinals scored three of the game's first four goals before DePauw (4-5) rallied with three straight goals to take its first lead at 4-3 with 20:43 on the first-half clock. The teams traded goals four times before North Central knotted the score on Adelaide Dieckmeyer's free-position goal with 2:21 to play. The hosts collected the ensuing draw control and ran the clock down, getting a go-ahead goal from Danielle Fiala with 22 seconds left, to take a 9-8 lead into halftime.

The Tigers pulled ahead once again with two early second-half goals, taking the lead on Maryclaire Heldring's goal with 25:52 remaining. North Central tied the score at 10-10, as Claire Norfleet scored off a pass from Gina Fisher, launching what would become a game-deciding 5-0 rally. Fisher scored two goals in the surge, while Mallory Bahr and Leea LoPresti each scored on free-position attempts. The Cardinals led by at least three goals the rest of the way.

Fisher finished the afternoon with five goals for North Central, while Fiala and Norfleet each totaled three. Fisher also recorded four draw controls and Rachael Houp, Jacqui Morgan and Sarah Hon each grabbed four ground balls.

Elizabeth McCracken paced DePauw's efforts with five goals, two assists and six ground balls.

Now winners of three straight games, the Cardinals travel to Augustana College on Tuessday for a battle for first place in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) standings. Play is scheduled to begin 7:30 p.m. Live video and in-game statistics can be accessed at northcentralcardinals.com/schedule.aspx?path=wlax.
