BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Apr. 6, 2013) –
The North Central College baseball team suffered a pair of heartbreaking losses Saturday afternoon to College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) foe Illinois Wesleyan University, suffering a 10-9 walk-off loss before falling in the nightcap 7-4.

Despite holding a 9-5 lead with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, the North Central bullpen was unable to secure the victory surrendering a hit by pitch followed by a double and four straight walks before the Titans scored the game-winning run on a balk to take a 10-9 win in game one.

Brendan Ryan was credited with the loss on the mound for the Cardinals, giving up two earned runs while walking three and also hitting a batter.

Vito DeRango finished game one going 3-for-5 from the plate with four RBI while Zac Pacanowksi was 3-for-4, driving in a pair.

In game two, the Cardinals (10-10, 3-4 CCIW) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as John Ciolkosz led off the top of the second with a single to right field, advancing to third on a fielding error.  Kevin Hennessy followed with an RBI-single to right and would score two batters later as Nick Daniels launched his second homerun of the season over the left field fence, giving North Central a 3-0 lead.

The Titans (16-4, 7-0 CCIW) would answer with seven runs over the next six innings while holding North Central scoreless until the Cardinals put up a run in the top of the ninth, but Jeff Johnson finished what he started throwing all nine innings while giving up just three earned runs.

With the loss, Kris Singh moves to 3-1 on the season as the junior gave up five earned runs over six innings of work.

Hennessy went 3-for-4 from the plate in game two while Matt Brancato added a pair of hits and an RBI.

The two teams square off again tomorrow, Apr. 7 with first pitch slated for 12 p.m. at Zimmerman Stadium.
