Apr. 7, 2013 –
Despite rallying to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, the North Central College baseball team was undone Saturday afternoon, as Illinois Wesleyan University scored the game-winning run in the top of the 10th to sweep the season series.

The Cardinals (10-11, 3-5 CCIW) led 3-0 after three innings, but the Titans (17-4, 8-0 CCIW) retaliated with two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead after five innings played.

Trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the eighth, Zac Pacanowski led off the inning with a double down the right field line.  After Joe Paparone came in to pinch run for Pacanowski, Tom Ross shot a two-out, RBI-single to right field drawing the Cardinals with one, 6-5.

The Cardinal bats came through yet again in the bottom of the ninth as John Ciolkosz led off with a single to right and was pinch ran for by Bobby Norell.  After a Kevin Hennessy sacrifice bunt, Matt Brancato shot a double over the left fielder's head, knotting the score 6-6.

In the top of the ninth, the Cardinals luck ran out as Illinois Wesleyan's Zach Scott walked with one out.  After the next batter struck out, Scott advanced to second on a passed ball and would come around to score a few pitches later after a Tim Coonan RBI-single.

John Munyon closed the door in the bottom of the inning to earn the win for Illinois Wesleyan.  Kyle Cahill was credited with the loss for North Central, giving up just one run over 1 2/3 innings pitched in relief.

Six North Central starters finished with multiple hits, including six doubles.

North Central travels to Augustana College on Wednesday, Apr. 10 with first pitch slated for 6 p.m.
