July 9, 2013 -
Five North Central College women's lacrosse players have been honored with selections to the 2013 Academic All-Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) Team. The MWLC released its list of 74 recipients on Wednesday.

To qualify, athletes must have been active members of their women's lacrosse team during the 2013 season with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or above during the year.

This year's Academic All-MWLC list included North Central juniors Rachael Houp, Kelsey King and Jamie Legner, as well as freshmen Gina Fisher and Kailey Robbins.

Houp, an exercise science major, and Legner, an athletic training major, have both been named to the team for the second straight season. Houp started all 17 games and was named to the All-MWLC FIrst Team this season as a defender, ranking third on the team in caused turnovers (22) and fourth in ground balls (33). Legner started 13 games on defense for the Cardinals, recording two goals and eight ground balls. King, who majors in broadcast communication, appeared in 10 games this season.

A business major, Fisher started all 17 games and was named First Team All-MWLC and the conference's Defensive Player of the Year, establishing new single-season school records for assists (21), ground balls (84) and caused turnovers (48). Robbins, an elementary education major, started 16 contests, ranking fourth on the team in caused turnovers (21) and ground balls (33).

The Cardinals finished with an overall record of 12-5, setting a single-eason school record for wins, and a 7-1 record against MWLC opponents in 2013.
