NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Sept. 18, 2013)– The North Central College women's soccer team traveled to Iowa on Wednesday to take on the University of Dubuque Spartans, but fell 2-1.
The Cardinals' (0-5-1) started out strong in the first half with shots by
Mackenzie Wenger ,
Hope Stayer and
Nicholette Fulk. North Central was able to get a break through and gain one goal, 12:27, into the game by
Katrina McNeela and assisted by Stayer.
The Spartans (6-0-0) acted 19 minutes into the second half with a rebound goal by Alexandra Watkins. The Cardinals tried responding immediately after with a shot from
Colleen Gebauer, but was saved before North Central could take back the lead.
Near the end of the match,
Tyra Maher and Stayer were putting shots on goal, but it was Lisa Rosas, from Dubuque, who put the final ball into the net, giving the Spartans the lead with only six minutes left in the game.
This was just the fifth time the teams have met, the latest one being back in 2010.
The Cardinals are back home on Friday to take on Beloit College at B-W Stadium with start time scheduled at 7 p.m.
