Women's Basketball Falls to No. 16 Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. (Jan. 11, 2014) –
The North Central College women's basketball team was unable to find its rhythm Saturday evening, falling to 16th ranked Carthage College, 119-78 at Tarble Arena.
 
The two teams traded leads through the opening four minutes before the Lady Reds (12-2, 3-0 CCIW) took a 19-point lead after a 31-9 run over the next eight minutes.
 
Carthage opened up its largest lead of the opening half just before the intermission as Michelle Wenzel layed in one of her 16 first half points, giving the hosts a 55-32 advantage.
 
The second half was much of the same for the Cardinals, as the offense never got going on the evening, shooting just 37 percent from the field.
 
Carthage shot a blistering 68 percent from the field on the contest, including a 30 of 41 showing in the second half.
 
Larynn Shumaker led the Cardinals with 13 points on 5 of 9 shooting from the field.
 
Five Lady Reds ended in double figures, paced by Wenzel's 26 points on 12 of 13 shooting.  Kristi Schmidt finished with 21 points and Stephanie Kuzmanic added 10 points and 17 assists.
 
North Central travels to Augustana College, Wednesday, Jan. 15.  Tip-off at Carver Arena is scheduled for 7 pm.
