WHEATON, Ill. (Jan. 21, 2014) – Despite holding leads of 11-0 and 14-3, the North Central College wrestling team couldn't close out the 26th-ranked Wheaton College Thunder in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin dual on Tuesday night.

North Central (5-6, 0-2 CCIW) won the first three matches to jump out to an 11-0 lead.  Nick Santos (17-10) recorded a major decision over Tom Foy, 12-3, for the second time this season.  Layten Binion (24-5) also recorded a major victory on Tuesday with a 13-2 victory over Gregory Manfredi.  Howard Beatty produced the third consecutive Cardinal win and evened his record to 11-11 this year with an 8-7 decision over Jared Fekete.

After William Byrd defeated Nathan Segal (25-9) 9-2, Josh Tardy (27-7) responded with a 9-4 decision over Mark Savenok to give the Cardinals a 14-3 lead.

However, the Thunder rallied to win the next four matches to take a 20-14 advantage.  Needing a victory by fall, 285-pound Dylan Mahler (24-8) could only muster an 8-3 decision over Taylor Gohn, the reigning CCIW Wrestler of the Week.  It was Mahler's second victory over Gohn this season.

The Cardinals head to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Border Brawl this Saturday.  First match begins at 9:00 a.m.
