(Jan. 28, 2014) – North Central College junior wrestler
Dylan Mahler earned his first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Wrestler of the Week honor on Tuesday after going a perfect 3-0 last week.
Mahler shared the award with Wheaton College's 149-pounder William Byrd. In a dual against Wheaton earlier in the week, Mahler defeated Thunder heavyweight Taylor Gohn 8-3.
At Saturday's University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Border Brawl, the 285-pound Mahler defeated Brandon Callper 6-4 in the Cardinals' 36-7 dual victory over the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and followed up that performance with a pin (4:51) of University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Justin Karkula in North Central's 33-13 win over the Blugolds.
So far this season, Mahler has already posted a career-high 26 wins to go with a team-leading eight victories by fall. He is the third Cardinal to win the award this season as teammates
Nathan Segal and
Andrew Rodawold earned the honor earlier this season.
North Central makes the short trip to Wheaton on Friday and Saturday for the Pete Willson Invitational. Action on Friday begins at 11:00 a.m. Friday and picks up again at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
