CHICAGO, Ill. (Nov. 7, 2014)­– The North Central College men's and women's swimming & diving teams traveled to Chicago to compete against the Illinois Institute of Technology Scarlet Hawks on Friday. The women brought home first place with a total of 119 points, the men took second with 19. 

Victoria Lynn started things off for the women placing second in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 22:18.57. She went on to take second place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:52.67 with Cristina Francisco getting third at 6:26.92.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Julie Albright snagged first place clocking in at 2:06.27 and collecting nine points for the team. Lauren Gorski placed fourth (2:25.88) with Bonnie Rischmann right behind her in fifth (2:39.21).

Mariana Cury took over things in the 50-yard freestyle getting first place with a time of 26.86. Lisa Gorski swam in at 29.34 for third place with Emily Manikas next at 31.25 in fourth. Cury went on to also take first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.41.

For the 100-yard backstroke, Albright had another first place victory tapping in at 1:05.08. Lauren Gorski also competed getting third at 1:07.83.

Moving to the breastroke, Samantha Montano placed second in the 100-yard race (1:15.68) with Emily Vargo (1:26.09)  and Francisco (1:29.08) behind her.


"Our women swam and dove well and, most importantly, raced well," said head coach Mark Broucek. "We will start the hard training phase and expect to swim even better in our next meets."

Misael Sanchez competed for the men starting with the 200-yard freestyle and finishing at 2:33.13. He went on to place first in the 100-yard freestyle for a season best time of 1:03.44.

Sanchez ended the meet with another first place completion in the 100-yard breastroke with a final time of 1:32.12.

On the diving side of things, North Central dominated with Natalie Przybyski finishing in first place with a final score of 260. Michelle Haskell placed second for the Cardianls with a score of 160.

The Cardinals compete again on Nov. 21 as they travel to the University of Chicago for the Phoenix Fall Classic.
