(Mar. 22, 2014) – The North Central College women's lacrosse team scored the first six goals on Saturday afternoon and cruised to an easy 16-8 season-opening victory over the Beloit College Buccaneers.
Freshman
Madison Maas made a quick impact in her first ever collegiate game, scoring the Cardinals' first goal of the season with just less than five minutes in the first half.Â
Claire Norfleet,
Leea LoPresti and
Rachael Houp all added a goal in the Cardinal run and
Gina Fisher added two.Â
Michelle Dillon and Libby Storrick answered with goals for the Bucs, but the hosts still held a 7-3 advantage heading into halftime. Â
After the break, North Central (1-0, 1-0) scored seven straight goals in just 14 minutes to blow open the Midwest Women's Lacrosse league game, 14-3. Beloit (3-3, 0-1) outscored the Cardinals 5-2 the rest of the way, but never threatened.Â
Maas paced the offense with four goals and an assist, and Fisher notched a hat trick and a goal to go with 12 ground ball pickups. Norfleet scored twice and finished with seven ground balls.Â
Senior
Sandy Stasaitis picked up her first career victory after playing all 60 minutes in goal and stopping three shots.Â
The Cardinals play again on Monday in their first game of a three-game road trip to California for spring break. North Central takes on Whittier College at 3:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Â
