DECATUR, Ill. (Mar. 30, 2014) – A stellar pitching performance from
Andrew Houser propelled the North Central College baseball team past Millikin University, 4-0 Sunday afternoon, while the Cardinal offense plated all four runs with two outs, completing the series sweep of the Big Blue.
Houser tossed all 9 innings on the bump to complete the shutout, giving up just three hits and striking out four batters, keeping the Big Blue (4-11, 0-3 CCIW) off balance all afternoon. The sophomore improves to 2-0 on the season with a minuscule earned run average of 1.29.
The Cardinal offense got on the board in the top of the second inning, plating a pair of runs two out runs as
Jake Rone got the rally started with a walk. Rone advanced to third on a
Nick DeWolf single, and would come around to score later in the inning on a wild pitch.
Alex Khoury followed with an RBI single, scoring DeWolf and putting North Central ahead 2-0.
In the top of the sixth the North Central offense used some timely, two out hitting yet again, as
Vito DeRango drove home DeWolf and Rone with a 2-RBI double to left, giving the Cardinals (11-4, 3-0 CCIW) the decisive four-run advantage.
DeRango finished the afternoon 2 for 5 from the plate with 2 runs batted in, while DeWolf was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.
North Central continues College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play Tuesday, Apr. 1 heading to Augustana College for a midweek doubleheader with game one slated for 1 pm at Swanson Stadium. The link to live statistics is available
