AURORA, Ill. (Apr. 1, 2014) -Â The North Central College women's lacrosse team established a new season high in scoring to remain unbeaten in Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) play on Tuesday, posting a 17-10 victory over Aurora University at Vago Field.
The Cardinals (3-3, 2-0 MWLC) owned a 34-18 advantage in shot attempts and effectively put the game out of reach with a run of seven straight goals midway through the contest. The win is North Central's first away from home in 2014.
Aurora's Danielle Morgan was able to bag the game's first goal just over minutes into the game, but the Cardinals'
Rachael Houp responded just 22 seconds later to knot the score.
Kassie Whaling followed with two straight goals off assists from
Claire Norfleet and Houp added a second goal before
Jordyn McFarlane scored off a pass from
Gina Fisher to cap off a 5-0 run which spanned nearly eight minutes and put the visitors in control.
The Spartans (1-6, 0-2) were able to close the gap to 6-4 late in the opening period, though Adelaide Dieckmeyer scored the final goal of the half with 2:10 on the clock.
Samantha Kinder opened the second-half scoring just over a minute after play resumed, and North Central tacked on five more goals to extend its lead to 13-4 with 20:38 to play.
Kinder totaled a season-high four goals to lead all scorers, while Whaling, Houp and McFarlane each scored three. Houp also caused three turnovers, while Fisher tallied six draw controls and five ground balls.Â
North Central travels to St. Louis, Mo. to face MWLC rival Fontbonne University (0-6, 0-4) on Saturday. Play is scheduled to begin at noon.
