CHICAGO, Ill. (Apr. 23, 2014) –
The North Central College baseball team continued its hot streak Wednesday afternoon, downing non-conference foe University of Chicago, 5-2 at J. Kyle Anderson Field.

The Cardinals jumped on the board first with a run in the top of the second as Zac Pacanowski took things into his own hands and doubled with two outs in the inning.  Pacanowski then came around to score on a throwing error by the Maroon catcher after reaching third on a wild pitch.

North Central (19-10) increased its lead in the top of the sixth as Joe Paparone led off the inning with a double to center field, followed by an intentional walk to Sam Klein.  After John Ciolkosz advanced each runner up a base on a sacrifice bunt, Pacanowski was intentionally walked to load the bases.  Kyle Piotrowski stepped to the plate and lined a single through the right side, plating a pair on his first collegiate hit to give North Central a 3-0 lead.

The Maroons (7-21) got an unearned run back in the bottom half of the inning, but the Cardinal took a run right back in the top of the seventh as Klein singled home Max Boryszewski who pinch ran for Paparone.

The Cardinals added an insurance run in the top of the eighth as Nick DeWolf got in on the scoring attack, singling through the right side and giving North Central a 5-1 lead.

Andrew Houser went 7 1/3 strong innings to earn his third victory of the season on the mound, giving up zero earned runs while striking out eight batters.

Piotrowski finished 1 for 3 from the plate with two RBI and a walk, while Pacanowski was 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored.

North Central returns to College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) action Friday evening, making the short trip to Wheaton College for the first game of the three-game weekend set.  First pitch at Lee Pfund Stadium is slated for 6 pm with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 12 pm the following afternoon in Naperville, Ill.  The link to live statistics is available HERE.
