Apr. 29, 2014 - The North Central College women's lacrosse team will head into this weekend's Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) Tournament on a three-game winning streak after closing the regular season with a win on Tuesday, defeating the University of Dubuque Spartans, 17-1, at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

The Cardinals (9-5, 8-2 MWLC) finish in a three-way tie with Carthage College and Concordia University Wisconsin in the MWLC standings and will enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed.

North Central sophomore attacker Gina Fisher established two more single-season school records Tuesday, scoring five goals to push her total to a new record of 61, while her six ground balls gave her 85 for the season to break the record of 84 she set in 2013. Fisher also closed the day with two assists and a game-high six draw controls.

Fisher assisted Mallory Bahr and Claire Norfleet on the game's first two goals in a 15-second span in the opening minutes, and the hosts opened up a 5-0 lead before Dubuque (4-11, 2-8) scored their lone goal with 17:39 on the first-half clock. The Cardinals carried an 8-1 lead into halftime, then tacked on nine unanswered scores in the second period.

Leea LoPresti and Anna Bartels each scored three goals, while Kassie Whaling and Jamie Legner each caused three turnovers and Sandy Stasaitis saved seven shots on goal.

North Central plays MWLC regular-season champion Augustana College (15-0, 9-0) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Vikings' Thorson-Lucken Field. The winner will play in the MWLC Tournament championship game at 7:30 on Saturday.
