IWLCA Press Release

May 13, 2014 - North Central College women's lacrosse players Gina Fisher and Rebecca James have been named to the 2014 NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region Second Team by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).

Fisher is now a two-time All-Region honoree after also being named to the Second Team in 2013. She was named the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference's (MWLC) Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season this year after establishing new North Central single-season records for goals (61), assists (27), ground balls (92) and draw controls (81) while also leading the team and the MWLC in caused turnovers (39). Fisher ranked third in the nation in ground balls per game and 18th in caused turnovers per game.

After just two seasons, Fisher is the Cardinals' career leader in assists (48), ground balls (176) and caused turnovers (87). She set new single-game school records for goals (10, Apr. 26 vs. Mount St. Joseph), ground balls (14, Apr. 15 vs. Concordia University Wisconsin) and draw controls (10, Apr. 17 vs. Benedictine University). Her 10-goal performance against Mount St. Joseph is the highest scoring total by any player in a MWLC game and matches the fourth-highest total posted by any NCAA Division III player this season.

James ranked third on the team in ground balls (28) and caused 10 turnovers while drawing the bulk of the toughest defensive assignments from game to game for North Central. She joined Fisher on the All-MWLC First Team this season.

A total of 256 Division III student-athletes received All-Region recognition from the IWLCA and are eligible for selection to the 2014 Division III All-America Team, which will be announced June 7.

North Central finished the 2014 season with an overall record of 9-6 and tied for second in the MWLC with an in-conference record of 8-2. The Cardinals closed the campaign with school-record single-season totals for goals (220) and draw controls (212).
