Box Score

Decatur, Ill. (Oct.28, 2015) - Finally being able to find a quick start to their offense but not being able to add to a quick score, the North Central College women's soccer team ended their game in a 1-1 draw against Millkin University in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) game Wednesday evening at Frank M. Lindsay field.

Jessica DeJong continued her offensive production and scored in the 14th minute, giving her team a 1-0 lead early in the match. DeJong recorded her 8th goal of the season as a defensive miscue allowed her to find the back of the net. The Cardinal defense took care of the rest as they allowed only one shot on goal in the first half. The Cardinals (7-8-1, 2-3-1) would go into the break carrying a 1-0 lead.

Millikin (6-9-1, 1-4-1) would tie things up fairly quickly as Taylor Hartman scored from five yards out just 11 minutes into the half, evening the score 1-1. Both defenses would hold the rest of the game and overtime would be needed to decide the outcome. Unfortunately, neither overtime period would be able to determine a victor.

North Central logged a 14-8 shot advantage including a 9-5 shot on goal gain. Taylor Markanich led all players with five shots while Nicki Seiton recorded four saves. A lot of credit needs to be given to the defense as they took some of the pressure off Seiton after two straight 10 save games. Seniors Amy Gerald, Karli Jo Hitz, and Nicholette Fulk deserve praise as they made it difficult for the Big Blue all evening.

The Cardinals next and final game is Saturday, Oct. 31st as they take on a very talented Illinois Wesleyan team. With Illinois Wesleyan already sharing at least a share of the conference title, the Cardinals look to become one of the four CCIW tournament participants. Game time for senior day is scheduled for 1 pm, live stats and video can be found HERE.
