Box ScoreKenosha, Wis. (Oct. 3, 2015) – The North Central College women's soccer team opened up conference play by defeating Carthage College 2-1, on Saturday evening at Art Keller Field.
North Central bounced back from a three game losing streak and took down CCIW rival Carthage thanks to a late Cardinal goal by
Emily Gaither. The Cardinals (6-4) showed poise all evening as they overcame the injuries they were dealt and started off their conference schedule strong.
North Central and Carthage were knotted 1-1 at the half as a penalty kick goal for both sides were the only goals of the period.
Caitlyn Orawiec scored her third goal of the season in the 31
st minute. Carthage (3-7) would respond with a penalty kick goal of their own in the 35
th minute as Maggie Washelesky logged her fifth goal of the season.
The second period went by without much action, with overtime looking necessary to determine a winner. That was until
Emily Gaither tallied her second goal of the season and eventual game-winning goal in the 86
th minute, courtesy of a
Victoria Stutzman assist. The Cardinals would hold onto their lead and begin CCIW action on a positive note.
Nicki Seiton moved up to third in the all-time saves list as she has now logged 216 in her career. The Cardinals were outshot 16-10 and 10-4 in shots on goal, but they made their shots count in the end.
North Central closes out non-conference play as they travel to the University of Dubuque on Wednesday, Oct. 7th, with game time at 7 pm.
