Box ScoreDubuque, Iowa (Oct. 7, 2015) – The North Central College women's soccer team faced their last non-conference opponent Wednesday evening at Oyen Field, succumbing to University of Dubuque 1-0.
The Cardinals (6-5) could not seem to get their offense going as they were outshot 18-6 in the contest. Senior defenders
Amy Gerald and
Karli Jo Hitz led North Central's defense as they took care of the Spartans in the first half, not allowing a single goal and only four shots on goal. The two teams went into the break tied at zero.
The Spartans (9-2-1) continued their offensive attack as the second period started. The only score of the entire game came early in the second half, as Katie Lynn scored a breakaway goal. The North Central defense held the Spartans to that lone goal but unfortunately couldn't find their offense the rest of the game.
Despite the loss, the Cardinals took away some positives as they look to get back into conference play. Traveling to an opponent who has been on the cusp of being nationally ranked all season and losing by one goal shows a lot of promise as the Cardinals look to compete in conference. They have shown they are looking to change things around and be a contender and they have exhibited the personnel to do so.
The Cardinals travel to North Park for their second CCIW matchup on Saturday, October 10
th with game time at 5 pm.
