McWhirter Named CCIW Wrestler of the Week

Feb. 11, 2015 – North Central College freshman Casey McWhirter was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Wrestler of the Week for the week of Feb. 2–9. 

McWhirter has gone 4-0 over the course of the past week starting with his first-place finish in the 133-pound class at the Harper College Open held on Feb. 7. At the open, McWhirter started the day off with an 8-0 major decision win over teammate Justin McGady . McWhirter then went on to win the next two by pinning Duke Bogicovic of Harper College at 2:51 in the semifinal and another pin of Camron Halton of Lincoln College at 3:41. 

On Tueday, McWhirter won his lone match of the night in the dual against Elmhurst College. He faced off against Carter Beebe and pinned him at 5:19 after a near loss earlier in the match. 

McWhirter is the fourth Cardinal wrestler to be named CCIW Wrestler of the Week after Blake Olson (157) won last week's recognition, Howard Beatty (141) won on Jan. 21 and Layten Binion (141) won on Nov. 26.

North Central is back on the mat on Saturday, Feb. 14, traveling to the University of Dubuque for the Jim Fox Invite with matches slated to begin at 9 a.m.
