Feb. 17, 2015 - North Central College women's track and field athlete Megan Costanzo has been selected as one of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, as announced by the CCIW on Tuesday.
Costanzo was picked as the conference's top running-event performer on the strength of her efforts in Friday's Chicagoland Indoor Championships at Al B. Carius Track. She won the 5,000-meter run, establishing an 18-second personal best with a time of 17 minutes, 44.83 seconds which currently ranks first among CCIW competitors and 25th nationwide among NCAA Division III athletes. Costanzo also turned in a sixth-place finish in the 1,000-meter run (3:09.11).
The 2014 CCIW outdoor champion in the 10,000-meter run, Costanzo is one of three Cardinals to receive the CCIW's weekly award this season. Hurdler Madison Renfro has also been selected for running events, while thrower Ebony Stallworth has been named the conference's leading field-event performer twice.
Currently ranked 18th in the nation, North Central will host the Cardinal Classic on Friday. Competition is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
