Mar. 19, 2015 - North Central College senior men's cross country and track and field student-athlete Travis Morrison has been selected as one of 58 fall student-athletes from the 2014 season to receive a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

The NCAA recently announced its list of 29 male and 29 female recipients from across all three divisions. The NCAA's Postgraduate Scholarship program, instituted in 1964, promotes and encourages education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes. To qualify, student-athletes must excel academically and athletically, be in their final year of eligibility and plan to pursue graduate study. Student-athletes must also maintain at least a 3.2 grade-point average and be nominated by their institution's faculty athletics representative.

Morrison, a physics major from Hoffman Estates, Illinois, earned All-America honors last fall with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, helping lead the Cardinals to their NCAA-record 16th Division III national championship in the sport. An Academic All-College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) selection each of the past two years, Morrison has also competed at the national level for North Central's track and field program, first earning All-America honors as part of the Cardinals' distance medley relay team at the 2014 Division III Indoor Championships.

At the 2015 indoor national championships, held last weekend in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Morrison won the track and field program's 53rd individual national championship, placing first in the 5,000-meter run, and also earned All-America honors with a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter run. He accounted for 15 of the team's 31 points as the Cardinals placed fifth in the nation.

Morrison is North Central's first NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient since football player Peter Bulandr '12 in 2012. In all, 25 of the 58 scholarship recipients from the fall season come from Division III insitutions. Morrison is one of four honores from the CCIW, joining Augustana College football player Thomas Enke and women's cross country runner Becca Sund and Wheaton College women's cross country runner Abigail Bullmore.
