Apr. 13, 2015 - North Central College women's lacrosse player Gina Fisher has been selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Offensive Player of the Week for Apr. 6-12.
Fisher is now a three-time recipient of the CCIW's weekly award, having also been so honored on Mar. 16 and Mar. 23. She collected her most recent accolades after leading North Central to three victories last week and pushing the Cardinals' current winning streak to a school-record eight games.
In an 11-10 victory at Beloit College on Tuesday, Fisher scored four goals, including two in the final 3:07, to negate a late deficit and help lead the Cardinals to victory. In Friday's 14-9 home win over Augsburg College, she turned in a game-high five goals while also collecting eight ground balls and tying her own single-game school record with 10 draw controls. Fisher closed out the week by totaling seven goals, two assists and five draw controls in a 16-9 CCIW win at the University of Dubuque on Saturday.
The CCIW's leader in caused turnovers per game (3.60) and ground balls per game (5.10) this season, Fisher owns North Central's career records for assists (64), ground balls (227), draw controls (169) and caused turnvoers (123) while ranking second in goals scored (138). She was the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) Defensive Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014 prior to North Central's entry into the CCIW this season.
The Cardinals (9-1, 3-0 CCIW) host conference rival Carthage College (8-4, 2-0) on Wednesday, with action set to get under way at 7:00 p.m. The game will be North Central's annual Pink Game and its annual Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night.
