ELMHURST, Ill. (Apr. 2, 2015) -Â Scoring seven of the game's first eight goals, the North Central College women's lacrosse team jumped in front early and never looked back in Thursday's College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) contest at Elmhurst College, scoring a 17-8 victory over the Bluejays in the first meeting between the two squads at Langhorst Field.
The Cardinals (6-1, 2-0 CCIW) extended their current winning streak to five games, matching the longest run of victories in the program's seven-year history.
North Central scored the first three goals of the evening, keeping the Bluejays out of the for the first 8:26 of the game. The Cardinals extended their advantage to 7-1 before Elmhurst's Nikki Togami scored three straight goals to close the gap to 7-4 with 6:38 left in the first half. North Central's Claire Norfleet and the Bluejays' Meghan Keyes exchanged goals before the Cardinals scored twice in the final 1:34, including a goal by Gina Fisher with 2.6 seconds on the clock, to head into halftime up, 10-5.
The Cardinals closed the door by holding Elmhurst (5-5, 0-1 CCIW) scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the second period while scoring three goals, two of which came from Bianca Perri, to extend their advantage to 13-5.Â
Fisher scored a game-high five goals while also leading North Central with five ground balls and sharing the team lead in draw controls (3) with Norfleet and Anicia Mattingly. Norfleet also recorded team bests of three assists and three draw controls and goalkeeper Kat Schultz tied a season high with eight saves.
