Box Score Sep.1 2015 – After a 1-1 tie at the half, the No. 13-ranked Aurora University Spartans (1-0) managed two goals in the final 45 minutes to earn a 3-1 victory over the North Central College women's soccer team at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Cardinals (0-1) came out strong in the first half, securing a 1-0 lead until the final minute of the half when Spartan senior Nicci Bermudes evened the score.
In the 62
nd minute, Nicci Bermudes scored a breakaway goal in front of the Cardinals defenders for her second goal of the game, making the score 2-1. Moments later, Bermudes found the lower left-hand corner of the goal, her third of the game.
The Cardinals outshot the Spartans 9-6 but were unable to get the ball past Aurora's keeper, Caitlin DeRuiter. DeRuiter ended the game with eight saves while Cardinal keeper,
Nicki Seiton, ended with three.
Bermudes ended the game with a hat trick and all three of the Spartans goals while
Jessica DeJong added the lone goal for North Central.
The Cardinals face Dominican University on Friday, Sep. 4 in a non-conference match-up at 7 p.m.
