Box ScoreSep. 27, 2015 - The North Central College women's soccer team rallied in the final minutes of the contest against the Rhodes College Lynx but eventually lost 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
Plagued by many injuries thus far on the season, North Central lacked the offensive contribution needed to take down the visiting Lynx (5-3-1). Rhodes College came out strong as they outshot the Cardinals 9-3 in the first half, only allowing one shot on goal. The Cardinals defense once again stayed strong as they looked to trigger a spark in the offense. The Lynx kept firing shots at keeper
Nicki Seiton until Hope Elliott connected in the 32
nd minute to give Rhodes the 1-0 lead. The Lynx would hold this lead going into halftime.
North Central (5-4) would not go down without a fight though. Seven minutes into the second half,
Caitlyn Orawiec found the upper right corner of the net to tie the game 1-1. The Cardinals and Lynx would trade shots for a majority of the second period, with North Central logging five more shots than they did in the first half. In the 80
th minute, Sarah Watcher of the Lynx scored over the outstretched arms of Seiton, giving Rhodes the 2-1 lead. North Central would rally in the final minutes of the game as they dominated the ball control and showed they would not go quietly. Unfortunately, nothing seemed to find the goal and the Cardinals lost their third game in a row.
The Cardinals were outshot by the Lynx 19-11 and 13-7 in shots on goal. Orawiec tallied her second goal of the season while Seiton logged 11 saves.
North Central begins CCIW play as they travel to Carthage College on Saturday, Oct. 3
rd with kickoff at 5 pm.
