Box Score:Sep. 4 2015 – The North Central College women's soccer team bounced back to earn their first win of the season, defeating Dominican University 2-1 on Friday evening at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
The Cardinals (1-1) scored two goals in the second half after a barrage of shots were fired at Dominican keeper Vanessa Gonzalez.
Late in the first half, Dominican jumped out to a lead when Kelli Iovino scored her first goal of the season off of a Taylor Adler assist. The Stars (0-2) would hold onto that 1-0 lead going into halftime.
In the 64
th minute, North Central answered with a goal of their own off the foot of
Jessica DeJong, her second of the season.
Taylor Markanich assisted on the play. The Cardinals took the lead later in the period when a
Sarah Gaither strike reached over the outstretched hands of Gonzalez. Gaither's goal would later prove to be the game winning goal as the Cardinals relied on their defense to secure the win.
The Cardinals attackers outshot the Stars 16-6, while the defense allowed three shots on goal the entire evening.
Caitlyn Orawiec and Markanich led the way with three shots apiece in the game.
The Cardinals travel to St. Paul, Minnesota to take on Bethel University on Monday, Sep. 7 in a non-conference match-up beginning at 4 pm.
