Oct. 12, 2016 – On a cold and gloomy night in Rock Island, Ill., the North Central College men's soccer team were a shining light, as they decisively beat Augustana 2-0 in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) contest on Wednesday night, at Thorson Lucken Field.

It would be a night to remember for freshman forward Alexis Flores, as he finished with both of the Cardinals goals. He was unlucky not score a hat trick, as he had a shot in the 16th minute that was just wide.

However, 23:57 into the half Flores would not be denied, as he opened the scoring for the Cardinals, scoring their first goal of the game and giving them an early lead. He was the recipient of a timely assist from senior midfielder Chandler Olah.

Sophomore forward Gavin Sanchez, one of the Cardinals most effective attacking weapons all season, had a shot blocked in the 36th minute that would have otherwise extended the lead going into halftime.

The Cardinals wasted little time attempting to put the game out of reach in the second half, with senior defender Jon Borzick almost scoring on a header shot in the 56th minute.
It was Sanchez again, this time in the 66th minute, who came close to increasing the Cardinals lead but had his shot saved this time.

Flores ensured the Cardinals would leave Augustana with the victory, as he scored his second goal of the game in the 74th minute.

After a start to the season that saw the Cardinals endure some adversity, things have been looking up recently as they are hitting peak form down the stretch in conference play.

North Central looks to continue their winning ways, when they travel to Chicago to take on Illinois Institute of Technology. Kickoff is at 3:30 pm, live stats can be found HERE
