Oct. 15, 2016 – In their most complete team performance of the season, the North Central College men's soccer team easily defeated Illinois Institute of Technology 4-1 on Saturday at Stuart Field.
Freshman forward
Alexis Flores picked up where he left off in the Cardinals' previous game, scoring the first two goals of the match with the first coming just 8:23 into the first half. His second would come five minutes later in the 13th minute, this time coming off a corner kick from sophomore forward
Teddy Trifunovski and senior forward
Chandler Olah.
The Cardinals would score again, not content going into halftime with only a 2-0 lead. Senior defender
Jon Borzick would score the Cardinals third goal in the 23
rd minute, thanks to an assist from Flores. This gave the Cardinals a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into the half.
The second half was more of the same, with the Cardinals generating several scoring opportunities. The only minor blemish for the day came in the 76
th minute, when freshman Zach Whritenour scored for the Scarlet Hawks off an assist from fellow freshman Michael Podsiadly.
Borzick, known for his shut-down defensive ability, would score his second goal of the match thanks to another assist from Trifunovski, his third of the game, and put the game all but out-of-reach for the Scarlet Hawks in the 78
th minute, on a shot from the left side about 25 yards out.
The Cardinals have showed offensive firepower as of late and appear to be peaking at the right time to ensure a birth in the College Conference of Illinois & W,isconsin (CCIW) tournament. They are now reaping the benefits of staying positive through the difficult times and maintaining an unselfish attitude.
