CCIW Press Release
Oct. 17, 2016 - The North Central College football team receives its third College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Special Teams Player of the Week award this week, as kicker Liam Crotty was tabbed as the conference's top-performing special teams player for games played Oct. 15.
Crotty received the distinction for his contributions to the Cardinals' 35-25 victory over CCIW rival Wheaton College on Saturday. He made all three of his extra-point attempts and connected on a pair of field goals, including a 25-yarder with 2:01 to play that sealed the win to give North Central sole possession of first place in the CCIW standings and possession of the Little Brass Bell.
Crotty is the CCIW's leader in points scored by kicking this season (43), converting all 28 of his extra-point kicks and 5 of 8 field goals. His is the sixth CCIW Player of the Week award earned by the Cardinals this season, as Pat Cravens and Zane Lodico have also been recognized on special teams, Tommy Sora and DJ Warkenthien have won on defense and Broc Rutter has the team's lone Offensive Player of the Week designation thus far in 2016.
Ranked fifth by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and sixth by D3football.com, North Central (6-0, 4-0 CCIW) travels to face Augustana College (2-5, 1-4 CCIW) on Saturday, with kickoff at Lindberg Stadium set for 1:00 p.m. Links to live coverage of the game can be accessed by clicking HERE.
