Cardinals Fall in CCIW Play to #16 Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. (Oct. 20, 2016) –
Traveling to 16th-ranked Elmhurst College, the North Central College women's volleyball team was unable to pull off the upset, falling 3-0 inside R.A. Faganel Hall on Thursday evening.
 
The Cardinal attack struggled in the opening set, finishing with seven kills while committing seven attack errors.  The defense had a hard time containing the Elmhurst attack, as the Bluejays finished with 17 kills to just four errors, jumping out to a 10-4 lead before eventually sealing the first set 25-14.
 
The North Central offense's difficulties continued in the second set, hitting at a -.053 mars, committing eight errors to just six kills en route to the 25-21 second set defeat.
 
Elmhurst (18-9, 5-1 CCIW) jumped out to a 12-5 lead early in set three, but North Central battled back to draw to within two points late 23-21, but it was too little too late for the Cardinals as Elmhurst closed out the match with a kill three points later.
 
Rachel Elshoff, Anna Billman and Julie Laugel each recorded six kills to pace the Cardinal offense, while Ashley Powers dished out 12 assists.  Defensively, Elshoff, Laugel and Delaney Cuckovich each finished with 10 digs, while Laugel led the team with two solo blocks.
 
Mary Lawrence led the Bluejay attack with 12 kills, while Hannah Davis also finished in double figures with 10.  Hannah Nimrick handed out a match-high 29 assists, while Amy Schryver led the way with 11 digs.
 
North Central continues College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play on Tuesday, Oct. 25, playing host to Carthage College at 7 p.m.
