Nov. 22, 2016 – After an extremely successful week both in tournament and dual competition, North Central College senior wrestler
Layten Binion was named wrestler of the week for the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW).
Binion led the Cardinals this weekend at the Concorida University Wisconsin Open, placing first in the 141 weight class after going 4-0 in the tournament. Binion opened up with a 7-3 decision over Steven's Point's Frank Lor. He followed that up with back-to-back decisions, winning his quarterfinal matchup 3-1 before taking the semifinal bout 6-2. The championship match would be a close one but Binion would emerge the victor in a 7-6 finish and continue his excellent start to the season.
Binion also started his conference competition off with a 3-1 decision over Augustana's Brendan Gould in a dual against the Vikings on Wednesday, November 16.
Binion is currently 9-2 on the season with a perfect 8-0 record in tournaments. He has seven wins by decision and two by major decision.
The Cardinals return to action on December 3 as they travel to La Crosse, Wis. For the Candlewood Suites Duals. The first match against UW La Crosse begins at 9 am.
