CHICAGO, Ill. (Dec. 29, 2016) – In a back-and-forth affair in the championship game of the Roosevelt University Classic, the North Central College women's basketball team found itself on the wrong end of a late fourth-quarter run, falling 99-88 at the hands of Concordia University-Michigan in the last game of 2016.
North Central (7-5) led by as many as seven point in the third quarter, as a
Jessica Dahle three-pointer gave the Cardinals a 63-56 advantage, but Concordia (12-3) ended the quarter on a 18-4 run to quickly take back its own seven-point lead.
Refusing to go down without a fight, the Cardinals battled back to trail by just one, 82-81 with 5:51 to play in the contest, however a 13-3 Concordia run over the next four minutes ended all hopes of a Cardinal comeback attempt.
Mayson Whipple led the Cardinal offense with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field and 6-of-8 shooting from the free throw line, also leading the team with six rebounds and three assists to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
Siarra O'Neil also finished in double-figures with a career-high 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, while
Caroline Heimerdinger also finished with a career-best 13 points.
Concordia finished with five double-digits scorers, led by Kari Boroiak's 26 points and nine assists. Brianna Rowe finished with 19 points, while Karlee Morris led the team with 13 rebounds.
North Central continues College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play on Wednesday, Jan. 4, traveling to Carroll University with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.
