Feb. 26, 2016 – Two members of the North Central College women's basketball team were selected to the 2016 All-College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Teams, as voted on by the conference's eight head coaches.
Sophomore guard
Mayson Whipple earned second team honors, while junior forward
Jamie Cuny was selected to the third team for the second straight season. Whipple ranked second in the CCIW averaging 5.6 assists per game in conference play, while leading the team and ranking sixth on the program's single-season assists list with 129. Whipple also leads the team averaging 12.8 points per game, while ranking eighth in CCIW play averaging 14.9 ppg. Whipple was also honored as CCIW Player of the Week on Feb. 22 after scoring a career-high 27 points againt North Park University in the regular season finale, including 16 in the fourth quarter alone.
Cuny leads conference in blocked shots, averaging 4.2 in conference play, while her 89 total blocks this season rank second on the program's single-season list, needing just two blocks to tie her own record set last season. Cuny is also the program's all-time leader in blocked shots with 180. Cuny is also leading the team in rebounding, averaging 8.1 per game, while ranking fifth in conference play averaging 8.0 rpg.
Wheaton College's Katie McDaniels was selected as the conference's Player of the Year, while Wheaton head coach Kent Madsen and Illinois Wesleyan University's Mia Smith earned Co-Coach of the Year honors. Carthage College freshman Bailey Gilbert was honored as CCIW Newcomer of the Year.
North Central qualified for the CCIW Tournament for the second consecutive season, as the Cardinals clinched the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 2 seed Illinois Wesleyan tonight at 5 p.m. at Wheaton's King Arena. Links to live coverage are available
