Decatur, Ill. (Feb. 4, 2016) – Never being able to find a rhythm combined with multiple late match losses resulted in the North Central College wrestling team falling at the hands of conference foe Millikin University Thursday at the Griswold Center in Decatur.
The Cardinals were able to jump out to an early lead despite losing the first weight class as
Brandon Malone recorded a pin over Zach Whitsel at 133 while
Layten Binion followed with a 16-0 technical fall in the 141 class. North Central would drop the 149 bout but
Danny Harris would record a 17-2 technical fall to give the visiting Cardinals a 16-6 advantage.
Unfortunately, the Big Blue (9-5) would win all but one of the remaining weight classes, including back-to-back pins at 174 and 184.
Tyler Vittal would salvage some points taking the 197 class but the Cardinals (4-8) could not overcome the deficit and would drop the match.
The Cardinals look to get healthy as the end of the season draws closer as they travel to University of Wisconsin Eau Claire to compete in the Don Parker Open Saturday, Feb. 6 with start time at 9 am.Â
