Box ScoreMar. 19, 2016 – The North Central College women's lacrosse team put together their most complete team effort of the season, defeating Hamline University 18-5 on Saturday, in Georgetown, Texas.
After Senior
Gina Fisher secured the initial draw control, junior
Madison Maas would score with 28:35 remaining, beginning on the offensive onslaught that the Pipers defense could not overcome. Fisher would then score herself with 28:14 to play, off an assist from senior
Bianca Perri, solidifying the Cardinals fast start.
Following a successful clear attempt, senior
Claire Norfleet would score the first of her four first half goals with 27:12 left. Norfleet was highly influential in the first half, with her other goals coming with 23:19, 11:22, and 6:47 remaining. She also assisted on Fisher's goal with 19:01 left to play.
The seniors were not the only major contributors in the first half, as Maas would end the half with four goals of her own, while junior Nikki Merriss would finish with two. With a 14-0 lead going into halftime, the Cardinals had executed head Coach Danielle Fiala's game plan to perfection, and completely swamped the Pipers. The second half began much like the first ended, with junior
Kassie Whaling scoring inside of the first minute. Maas would continue her strong offensive performance, scoring with 16:12 left to play, thanks to Norfleet's second assist of the day. With 11:11 remaining Whaling would score again, followed by Norfleet's fifth goal of the day with 7:22 left, this time assisted by Maas.
While Norfleet was the team leader in goals and assists with five and three respectively, it was a complete team effort as sophomore
Kara Stevens collected a team high five groundballs, while Fisher had three. Stevens also had two caused turnovers, while junior
Anicia Mattingly, sophomore
Emily Zadny, and Fisher each had one also.
The Cardinals back up tomorrow at 1 P.M. when they take on Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas for the second game of their spring break trip. Live video coverage can be accessed by clicking
