Box ScoreMar. 22, 2016 – The North Central College women's lacrosse wrapped up their Texas trip by delivering a Texas-sized victory over Linfield College on Tuesday, tying the team's single game goals record to win 22-2.
Within the first five minutes of the game, the Cardinals had sent a message that they were determined to end their time in Texas on a high, with senior
Gina Fisher scoring with 27:20 left to play, shortly followed by sophomore
Emily Zadny with 25:32 remaining, then Fisher scoring again with 25:17 on the clock.
Unable to stop the Cardinal's fast break, the Wildcats would then surrender goals to Fisher (23:08), Zadny (22:56), senior
Claire Norfleet (20:40), Fisher (20:15), junior
Madison Maas (17:22), and Zadny with 17:18 left to play. Zadny's goal broke the program record for the fastest goal after a previous goal, which was previously held by head coach
Danielle Fiala.
The Cardinals would end the half much how they began it, with goals scored by senior
Rebecca James (14:17), junior
Anicia Mattingly (12:39), sophomore
Kara Stevens (8:20), Zadny (3:52), and junior
Kassie Whaling 0:57, to go into halftime with a commanding 14-1 lead.
The second half was more of the same for the Cardinals, as offensively and defensively they severely overmatched the Wildcats. Whaling would score with 26:29 left to play, followed shortly after by Norfleet with 24:15 remaining. Whaling (17:34), Perri (14:48), Stevens (10:15), Whaling (5:05), freshman
Kaitlyn Roybal (3:42) while senior would
Kailey Robbins scored the record program record tying goal inside the final minute.
Statistical leaders for the Cardinals included Whaling, Zadny and Fisher who led the goal scoring with four apiece, while Norfleet and Maas were assist leaders with two each. James led the team in groundballs with five, followed by
Anicia Mattingly who had three. Senior
Bianca Perri led the way with three caused turnovers, while James had two.
Going 2-1 on the trip, with their only loss coming in overtime, leaves the Cardinals with many positives to take from their time in Texas, and some serious momentum headed into a four-game home stand. Breaking a team record and also tying one both in the same game is no small feat.
The Cardinals begin their stretch of home games with their first one of the season on Saturday, when they host Cornell College (0-5) at 1 p.m. in Naperville, at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. Â Live video coverage can be accessed by clickingÂ
