Box ScoreMar. 26, 2016 – The North Central College women's lacrosse team's (4-2)  first home game of the 2016 season was one for the record books, as they set a new single game record for goals scored in a 24-0 victory over Cornell College.
The Cardinals wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, with junior
Madison Maas opening the scoring with 29:15 on the clock, followed by senior
Claire Norfleet extending the lead 27:04 remaining, off an assist from sophomore
Emily Zadny. The positive start to the game would be mirrored through the remainder of the record-breaking win for the Cardinals.
By midway through the first half, the Cardinals superior skill level and athleticism had all but put the game out of reach for the Rams, thanks to an 11-0 score line, which would be extended to 15-0 at halftime.
The second half proved to be more of the same for both teams, as the Rams struggled to keep up with the Cardinals fast break and would again be held scoreless.
The Cardinals were dominant out of the center which led to several of their scoring opportunities, registering 18 total draw controls to the Rams six. Also pleasing for head coach
Danielle Fiala in her first home game as Cardinals head coach would have been the fact that all of the field players for the Cardinals scored goals.
Norfleet led the team in goals with four, while senior
Bianca Perri, Maas, sophomore
Kara Stevens, and senior
Gina Fisher each had three. Norfleet was also the team leader in assists with five, who was followed by Maas, Fisher and junior
Anicia Mattingly with two each. Fisher led the way with ten groundballs, followed by Norfleet with three. The leader in caused turnovers was also Fisher, who finished with five, followed by Perri with two. Stevens had a game high four draw controls, while Fisher and Maas had three apiece.
The Cardinals return to Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Wednesday for the second of their four-game long stretch of home games, when they host Aurora University (2-5) Â at 7 p.m. Live stats can be accessed by clickingÂ
