Box Score
April 16., 2016 – Given that it was senior day, it was only fitting that seniors
Gina Fisher and
Claire Norfleet would spearhead the North Central College Women's Lacrosse team's 21-2 defeat of College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) foe Carroll University on Saturday afternoon at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
Â
Fisher and Norfleet led by example all afternoon for the Cardinals as they have all season, while seniors
Bianca Perri,
Kailey Robbins and
Rebecca James all made valuable contributions to the victory and provided the leadership that has been the backbone of the Cardinals 11-2 record this season.
Â
It only took 11 minutes for the Cardinals to ensure it would be a long afternoon for the Pioneers, racing out to a 7-0 lead with 19:23 on the clock. The first goal of the day foreshadowed how the afternoon would play, with Norfleet scoring off an assist from Perri. Shortly following that, Fisher would provide an assist for sophomore
Kara Stevens with 25:41 remaining.
Â
With 9:09 remaining, James scored for the Cardinals, a well-deserved reward for one of the Cardinals most consistent and reliable defensive players over the past four seasons.
Â
The Cardinals went into halftime with a 14-1 lead, leaving the Pioneers prospects looking grim heading into the second half.
Â
Perri and the Cardinals wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the second half, as she scored with 26:27 left to play.
Â
The Cardinals superior speed and skill level saw them completely overwhelm the Pioneers throughout the remainder of the game, which ended much how it began, with Norfleet scoring of a Fisher assist.
Â
Fisher had a game high six goals, while Norfleet had four and Stevens three. Norfleet again excelled at creating scoring opportunities for others, leading the way with five assists, followed by Perri who had four. Fisher was dominant all over the field, with seven groundballs, five caused turnovers and five draw controls. To go along with her goals and assists, Norfleet was also influential in other areas, finishing with three groundballs, two caused turnovers and five draw controls.
The Cardinals play next Wednesday April 20, in a CCIW matchup Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, against Augustana College (12-1). Live stats and video can be accessed by clickingÂ
