CCIW Press Release
Apr. 19, 2016 - North Central College women's track and field athlete
Megan Costanzo has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Track Athlete of the Week for Apr. 11-17 after establishing a new school record with a nation-leading time last weekend.
Costanzo competed in the Mt. SAC Relays in Norwalk, California on Thursday, taking part in the 10,000-meter run. As the only NCAA Division III entrant in the field, she finished 17th in a 38-runner field, clocking a time of 35 minutes, 25.78 seconds to post the fastest time at the distance by a Division III competitor so far this season. Costanzo's 30-second personal best also broke the previous North Central varsity record of 35:28.44, set by Amanda Laesch in 2011.
Also the holder of North Central's outdoor record in the 5,000-meter run (17:00.41), Costanzo was an All-American last season in the 10,000, placing third at the Division III Outdoor Championships.
The Cardinals compete in the Augustana College Women's Meet of Champions on Friday. Field-event competition is set to begin at 3:00 p.m., with running events to commence at 5:30.
