April 27., 2016 – With the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) tournament waiting in the shadows, the North Central College women's lacrosse team returned to their winning ways and gained momentum, as they handed the University of Dubuque a 17-2 defeat on Wednesday night, at Benedetti-Werhli stadium.

The Cardinals wasted little time in putting the Spartans on the back foot. After sophomore Kara Stevens secured the initial draw control, senior Claire Norfleet set up junior Kassie Whaling for the game's initial goal, with 29:41 on the clock. Stevens would again secure the draw control, leading to the second goal for the Cardinals, courtesy of junior Madison Maas scoring off an assist from senior Gina Fisher.

The Cardinals would completely dominate the first half, going into halftime with an 11-0 lead. Whaling was particularly influential throughout the half, finishing with three goals.

The second half opened much as the first did, with Norfleet scoring her 50th goal of the season with 28:38 left to play, thanks to an assist from Whaling. Norfleet's 51st goal of the season came not long after, thanks to an assist from senior Bianca Perri with 25:38 remaining.

The end of the second half was sure to please head coach Danielle Fiala, as the Cardinals scored three consecutive goals thanks to Fisher (13:59), Maas (12:11), and junior Nikki Merriss (8:10).

The Cardinals were led by their seniors, as Norfleet and Fisher had four goals apiece, while Whaling's three goals placed her second in that category. Fisher led the way with three assists, while Norlfeet, Perri and Whaling each had one. The leader in groundballs was also Fisher, finishing with nine, while Norfleet finished with five. Junior Anicia Mattingly had a team-high three caused turnovers, while Norfleet and Fisher each had two. Stevens was the leader in draw controls with five, with Fisher, Norfleet and Zadny each having two.

The Cardinals will look to finish conference play on a positive note, when they travel to Kenosha, Wis., for an away game against Carthage College on Saturday April 30 at Art Keller Field. Game time is 1:00 P.M., and live stats and video can be accessed by clicking HERE.
