April 6., 2016 – After four consecutive home wins, the road proved to be just as friendly to the North Central College women's lacrosse team, as they defeated Beloit 16-4 on Wednesday night, at the Strong Stadium Complex.
The Buccaneers came out of the gate strongly, scoring inside of the first 30 seconds and immediately putting the Cardinals on the back foot. However, the Cardinals would not allow the initial setback to deter them, as they would go on to score 11 unanswered goals, to complete a near flawless first half.
The Cardinals first five goals came in quick succession, with the Buccaneers defense unable to handle their fast break. Sophomore
Kara Stevens opened the scoring with 29:16 remaining, followed by senior
Claire Norfleet with 28:20 left to play, senior
Bianca Perri 28:07 on the clock, junior
Madison Maas with 27:58 left in the half, and Stevens again with 27:34 remaining. This flurry of goals put the Cardinals in a commanding position, and they would go into halftime with an 11-1 lead.
With the game already almost out of reach for the Buccaneers, the Cardinals ensured there would be no miraculous second half comeback. Norfleet had a hand in the first two goals, assisting junior
Kassie Whaling with 26:07 on the clock, and also Stevens with 20:07 left to play.
Whaling would go on to score the final three goals of the game, putting an exclamation point on what as another successful night for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals multiple offensive weapons were again on display, with Fisher and Whaling leading the way with four goals each. They were followed by Stevens and Maas, who each had two. Norfleet's unselfishness and vision helped her lead the team in assists, with six, while Whaling had two. Norfleet also had a game high four groundballs, while Fisher had three. The senior duo also led the team in draw controls, with four each. Senior
Rebecca James, sophomore
Emily Zadny, Norfleet, Maas and Stevens each one caused turnover.
The Cardinals play next on Saturday April 9, when they return to Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium to face the University of Northwestern (Minnesota). Live stats can be accessed by clickingÂ
