May 10, 2016 – North Central College baseball player
Nick Sotiros was named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Hitter of the Week on Tuesday, the Cardinals sixth Player of the Week selection this season.
Sotiros joins
Chris Hill in earning Hitter of the Week honors, as Hill has earned the distinction twice this season, while
Russell Hoh,
Jordan Van Dyck and
Bryan Polowy have all been named Pitcher of the Week.
Sotiros hit .500 last week, going 10-for-20 from the plate with four doubles, breaking the program's single-season record of 18 set in 1996. He slugged .700 on the week, leading the Cardinals to a doubleheader sweep over Carthage College, finishing 8-for-12 over the two games to clinch the Cardinals second straight CCIW regular season championship.
The junior first baseman has started all but one game this season, leading the team and the CCIW batting .420 this season. He also leads the team with 63 hits, four triples, 39 runs batted in, 99 total bases and a .660 slugging percentage.
North Central (29-8) will take on Illinois Wesleyan University in the opening game of the CCIW Tournament on Thursday, May 12 hosted by Augustana College at Swanson Stadium in Moline, Ill. The link to the tournament website is available
