2016 D3baseball.com All-Central Region Teams
May 23, 2016 – D3baseball.com released their 2016 All-Region teams on Monday, as
Nick Sotiros was selected to the All-Central Region first team and
Chris Hill to the second team, while head coach
Ed Mathey earned Central Region Coach of the Year honors.
Mathey's Central Region Coach of the Year award is the first in program history, with D3baseball.com naming all-region teams starting in 2012. Mathey led the Cardinals to the second highest win total in program history (31-12), while guiding the Cardinals to their second straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) regular season championship, the fifth under Mathey's helm and the 12
th in the history of the program.
North Central has had at least one D3baseball.com all-region selection in each of the last four seasons, as Sotiros' first team honor mark's the second straight season with a first team selection.
Sotiros finished the season batting .389, starting 42 of the Cardinals 43 games at first base this season. The junior also led the team with 68 hits, 22 doubles, four triples, four homeruns, 44 RBI, 110 total bases and a .629 slugging percentage. His 22 doubles shattered the program's previous single-season record of 18 set in 1996, while his 68 hits rank third on the single-season list and his 110 total bases rank 10
th. Sotiros was also a first team All-CCIW selection, leading the conference in batting.
Hill was named to the All-Central Region second team, adding to his first team All-CCIW selection. The junior catcher hit .335 this season, grinding out all 43 games behind the plate for the Cardinals. His 19 doubles this season rank second behind Sotiros on the program's single-season list, while his four homeruns tied Sotiros for the team lead.
