Box Score

Sep. 1, 2016 – Beginning their season on a strong note, the North Central College women's soccer team defeated the Edgewood College Eagles 1-0 Thursday night at Benedetti-Wehrli stadium.

Andrew Gamarra begins his first season as head coach with a positive all-around team win as the defense did not shake all game and the offenses experience took over to secure the win.

The Cardinals (1-0) put the pressure on the Eagles in the first half, winning the shots battle 4-2 and 2-1 in shots on goal. In the 14th minute, Taylor Markanich received an indirect kick opportunity but the Cardinals could not capitalize, keeping the score tied at zero. The half would end scoreless and with Edgewood committing eight fouls to the Cardinals three.

The Cardinals wasted no time in the second half, as Markanich made the most of another scoring chance and logged her first goal of the season, an unassisted attempt in the 49th minute. Edgewood (0-1) would catch the Cardinals in the shots category as both teams finished with seven apiece but the Eagles logged another five fouls, finishing the day with 13 while North Central ended with six. The Cardinals defense would stay strong the rest of the game, with goalkeeper Nicki Seiton tallying four saves along with the 10th shutout of her career. Seiton is now twelve saves away from second all-time in career saves.

The Cardinals return to action Sunday, Sep. 4 hosting Bethel University at noon. Live stats can be found Here.
