Box Score
Sep. 4, 2016 – Despite a strong defensive effort, the North Central College women's soccer team was forced into a 1-1 tie against Bethel University Sunday afternoon at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
Midway through the first half, the Cardinals (1-0-1) were able to take the lead thanks to a goal by
Taylor Markanich, her second score of the season. Markanich was assisted by
Angie Menefee, tallying her first assist of the year. The Cardinals defense held strong the rest of the half and were able to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
North Central was able to keep the pressure on the Royals (0-1-1) the majority of the second half but the Bethel attack kept pursuing. What looked like a second straight victory for the Cardinals, the Royals had other ideas as Maggie Sipe was able to shoot past Cardinal keeper
Nicki Seiton in the 83
rd minute.
In the two overtime periods, both teams exchanged shots yet none were able to find the back of the net. With the clock counting down the final seconds of the second overtime, Bethel had a chance to end the game but Mikayla Nordin's slow roller missed wide left as the horn sounded, resulting in a 1-1 final.
North Central logged 14 shots with 10 being on goal while Bethel tallied 12 shots and seven on goal. Seiton finished with six saves on the day while Bethel finished with nine.
The Cardinals next contest is September 7 as they travel to River Forest to take on Concordia University Chicago. North Central defeated the Cougars 1-0 last season. Game time is scheduled for 5 pm. Live stats can be found
