River Forest, Ill (Sep. 7, 2016) – The North Central College women's soccer team found themselves on the wrong end of a late goal score, falling 2-1 to Concordia University Chicago Wednesday night at Concordia Stadium.
The Cardinals (1-1-1) took a 1-0 lead at the 36:23 mark thanks to a goal by
Yasmin Chavez, her first of the season. Chavez was able to sneak one past the Cougars goalie and find the back of center net.
North Central's lead did not last long however as just 30 seconds later, Allison Kruk scored her first goal of the season off of a deflection that did not go the Cardinals way. The half would end with the score still knotted at one.
The defenses came out strong for both teams in the second half, with shot after shot being saved on both ends. What looked to be the Cardinals second overtime game in a row was not the case as a ball that initially hit North Central's crossbar was then headed in by the Cougars (1-1-1) Elizabeth Sanders. The Cardinals attack kept pushing but could not make the most of their opportunities and dropped their first loss of the season.
North Central outshot the Cougars 17-13 but matched them in shots on goal at 13.
Nicki Seiton logged five saves on the day while
Nicole Novak and
Sarah Gaither led the way in shots with four apiece.
North Central returns home on Sunday, September 11 as they take on Penn St. Behrend at 11 am. Live stats can be found
