Sep. 11, 2016 – Fighting their way back from being down 3-0 early in the match, the North Central College women's soccer team was unable to overcome the deficit and lose 5-2 against Penn St. Behrend Sunday afternoon at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
Penn St. Behrend got the scoring started quickly as Jordan Oberlander found that back of the net off of a perfect pass from Alex Bilka. The Lions (1-2) scored again at the 11:36 mark as Olivia Belack scored off another Bilka assist. 30 seconds later, Bilka got in on the scoring and gave the Lions an early 3-0 lead.
North Central (1-1-1) would fight back however as
Taylor Markanich scored her third goal of the season, a curving ball that found the upper right hand corner over the outstretched arms of the Lion goalie. In the 40
th minute,
Sarah Gaither helped cut the deficit after a deflected ball in the goalie box bounced around and she was able to score her first goal of the season. The Cardinals would go into halftime down 3-2
The second half would start with a significant Cardinals shot advantage as well as dominating the time of possession. The Lions changed the momentum as Olivia Belack scored in the 67
th minute and then again in the 69
th, her second and third goals of the game. The Cardinals could not seem to get anything going the rest of the way and would fall 5-2.
Belack would log a hat trick for the Lions as well as an assist.
Nicki Seiton recorded one save on the day, putting her in a tie for second all-time on the career saves list.
North Central travels to St. Louis on Tuesday, September 13 as they take on Webster University at 5:30 pm.
