Sep 14., 2016 – The North Central College men's soccer team generated several scoring opportunities, but were unable to capitalize in a 1-0 loss to Benedictine University on Wednesday night, at Benedetti-Wherli Stadium.

The first half did not go as the Cardinals had planned, culminating in a goal by junior midfielder Nick Kapetanos with 27:53 on the clock, with an assist coming from sophomore forward Erik Stammer.

Thankfully, the Cardinals came out in the second half determined to make amends and will themselves back into the game. Three minutes into the half, sophomore forward Ivan Bohorquez had a shot saved, foreshadowing how the remainder of the half would play out.

Only four minutes later, sophomore forward Gavin Sanchez was unlucky not to level the scores and bring his season goal tally to five, with his shot being saved also.

In his first game back from injury, sophomore forward Joe Trocki made an impact, but was also on the receiving of another stellar save from junior goalkeeper Antonio Marti-Polo in the 67th minute.

Sophomore forward Jared Collier also suffered a similar fate twenty minutes into the half, coming close to scoring a much needed goal for the Cardinals, only for Marti-Polo to again prevent that from happening.

Despite what seemed like a monumental task, the Cardinals refused to quit. Senior forward John Kissel looked to break the scoring drought for the Cardinals, but his shot in the 81st minute sailed just over the top of crossbar.

Exemplifying the Cardinals mindset of playing hard to the final whistle no matter what the score is, senior midfielder Chandler Olah almost tied the game 10 seconds before time expired, however his shot ended up being just a little too high.

The Cardinals will be in action next when they host Dominican at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Saturday, September 17 at 7:00 P.M. Live in game statistics and video can be accessed by clicking here.
