Sep. 16, 2016 – In one of their most physical matches all season, the North Central College women's soccer team tied 1-1 against University of Dubuque Friday night at Benedetii-Wehrli Stadium.

North Central (1-3-2) took the early lead 15 minutes into the game as Noelia Reyes logged her first goal of the season, a header off the free kick from Rachel Kolling. The Cardinal defense shined in the first half, allowing only two shots from Dubuque with one being on goal. The Cardinals would take a 1-0 lead into the break.

The defense would continue to dominate in the second half, again allowing only two shots until the 73 minute mark. A perfectly placed pass from Dubuque's Brianna Burkart led to a goal by Taryn Spisak, knotting the score at one. Regulation would end with both teams trading shots yet none being able capitalize, sending the Cardinals into their second overtime game of the season.

Neither the Cardinals nor the Spartans were able to score in the two overtime periods and North Central would have to settle for a draw.

North Central was able to keep up their intensity the entire 110 minutes with key personnel coming off the bench and being the spark that the Cardinals needed. Despite the outcome, the team definitely has the ability to build on this game and prepare them for the conference schedule.

Taylor Markanich and Dubuque's Lauren Cangelosi led all players with four shots on goal. Cardinal newcomer Catherine Kent logged three shots and one on goal.

North Central is back home Sunday, September 18 as they host No. #6 University of Chicago. Game time is scheduled for 12 pm. Live stats can be found HERE
